New hand dyed, hand spun yarns

28/2/2013

If you check out my hand spun yarn page here I've just updated with lots of lovely hand spun hand dyed yarns, here's a taster for you to look at....

We all had a fantastic day at St Abbs last weekend for the wool festival - we had glorious sunshine interspersed with flurries of snow on and off during the day but it didn't put too many people off and the event was well attended.  We will be doing it all again on November 2nd, so put the date in your diaries and come and join us.  The cakes and coffee are well worth the visit too!  We are hoping to have another event in August in Coldstream so I'll let you know how that's going when I have more news.

I'm getting ready for the Edinburgh Yarn Fest in a couple of weeks time, there's lots more information on their blog - link here.

For more events, please look at the listings on previous posts,  I've got a couple more in the pipeline, just waiting for confirmation, so I'll be posting more information soon.

A new direction

18/2/2013

As if I didn't have enough to do to get ready for all the events listed below, I recently went to see my pal Marie to learn the art of dyeing yarn/fibre and am pleased to say, took to it like a duck to water!  I'll be posting some pictures of my hand spun, hand dyed yarns before the weekend, so come back to see what I've been up to!

Briefly though, my fibres of choice to dye are hand spun humbugs - so that's a mix of brown, white, grey and black fleeces from as many type of sheep as I could lay my hands on - including Jacobs, Shetland, Icelandic, Finnish, Corriedale, & Blue-faced Leicester, then some Herdwick & Swaledale too, all in 25 gram hanks, some singles, some plied yarns all beautiful colours on a rich backdrop of natural fibres...

I'll be publishing the teddy bear pattern and putting together some kits of my hand spun yarn and stuffing fibres to sell at future events.  Some  teddies for sale will be appearing here on my website soon.  If you want a bear making in a specific yarn or colour, just drop me a line using the contact form here.

Starting price from £40 plus postage costs - that's a hand spun, hand knit, pure wool bear, stuffed with washed and carded lambswool.  Luxury bears will also be available in cashmere, alpaca, yak, camel....

New things

I've been busy doing lots of spinning, replenishing my stock of lovely yarns after the festive rush.  It seems such a long time ago, the days are lengthening and I seem to have more get-up-and-go to do things in an evening.
I'll be updating the yarn page with new yarns next week so please come back to see what I've been up to.
I've been working on new knitting and crochet designs too, here's a sample of what's just come off the needles - all hand spun bears and beautiful to behold, each with a personality of it's own.

Fairs, festivals and events

A list of events lined up so far for this coming year that I will be attending, if you can make it along to see what's happening in wool world there is lots of stuff on my stand that isn't here on the website...

St Abbs Wool Fair at the Ebba Centre in ST Abbs on Saturday 23rd February between 10am and 4pm
See Woolfish website for more information on who else is attending.

Edinburgh Yarn Festival at the Old Drill Hall in Edinburgh on Saturday 16th March between 10am and 5pm - see link below for more details, but I think it's going to be a great event and I'm really looking forward to being there.

Woolly Tales wool fair at the Northumberland Hall, Alnwick on Saturday 27th April between 10am and 4pm free entry, more details of other stall holders to follow, but those who attended the Sheep Tales event at Alnmouth are coming too.

I've been knitting and designing for a long time and don't think I'm going to stop anytime soon.  The inspiration just keeps coming, there is always a new technique to learn, a new yarn to try out and so many knitters out there in the world sharing their tips and secrets that it's sometimes hard to know what to do next.
